Barnes & Barnes has served the Santa Barbara community for over 35 years. Our commitment to providing the highest level of legal representation and establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients has resulted in recognition in the community as well as by our peers. We understand that we are a service organization as well as a provider of legal expertise, and we work collaboratively with our clients to meet their needs in a cost-effective manner. Virtually all of our clients are referred to us by existing clients or by our colleagues in the legal community.
We are committed to serving both the legal profession and the Santa Barbara community. Our attorneys are associated with the local bar and other legal organizations, and have appeared as speakers for continuing legal education programs in the firm’s areas of expertise. Additionally, our attorneys have served as board members and officers of local nonprofit organizations.
OUR ATTORNEYS
MARGARET ("PEGGY") V. BARNES
Peggy Barnes has extensive experience in estate planning, as well as in probate, trust and conservatorship court proceedings. Ms. Barnes has actively served the Santa Barbara community as a long-time participant on the boards of several local non-profit organizations, including Hospice of Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Hospice Foundation and the Friendship Adult Day Care Center. She is licensed to practice law in California as well as before the United States Tax Court, and is a member of the Santa Barbara Estate Planning Council.
Ms. Barnes graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her law degree from Loyola Law School, graduating magna cum laude and Alpha Sigma Nu.

JEFFREY B. SODERBORG
Jeffrey Soderborg was born and raised in Santa Barbara, and became associated with the firm in 2012 after three years of litigation practice in San Francisco. Since 2012, Mr. Soderborg’s practice has focused exclusively on estate planning, trust and probate law.
Mr. Soderborg earned his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2009, following his attainment of a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, with honors, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. While at Hastings, Mr. Soderborg served on the Board of the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly. Mr. Soderborg is admitted to the State Bar of California, as well as the United States Court for the Northern District of California.
Mr. Soderborg is the former president of the Santa Barbara Barristers, served as a board member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association from 2016-2019, and is a member of ProVisors, an invitation-only organization consisting of attorneys, financial advisors, CPAs, and other local professionals.
